R.B. Koz Art

Artist's Statement
Rugile Barbara Koz is a Lithuanian-born artist and educator based in London. Working across photography, moving image, digital collage, poetry and appropriation, her practice explores how we try to make sense of the world—through language, images, data, and systems of representation. Rather than offering certainty, her work invites ambiguity and reflection on what lies beyond what can be named or defined.
Her early photography focused on intuitive image-making—seeing as a way of connecting with the world beyond the self, influenced by artists like Rinko Kawauchi and Daido Moriyama. More recent work draws on open-source data, AI-generated imagery and online research, questioning how technology shapes how we see and understand reality.
Alongside her practice, Rugile teaches Art and Design in secondary education. Her teaching encourages experimentation, critical thinking, and curiosity—supporting students to develop their own voice while engaging with contemporary ideas and materials. She sees the classroom and the studio as connected spaces for exploration and creative risk-taking.
